Speaker 1: Dr Mohammed Balogun (Senior Researcher, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), South Africa)

Mohammed is a principal researcher at the CSIR where he leads a multi-disciplinary research team of chemists, biologists, and material scientists. He holds an MSc in biochemistry and PhD in organic chemistry. His research focuses on the development of nanomedicines, particularly polymer therapeutics, and nanomaterials for infectious diseases. He has been involved in infectious disease research for over twenty years.

 

Speaker 2: Dr Sophie Pascoe (Epidemiologist and Principal Researcher, HE2RO, and Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg)

Sophie is an Epidemiologist and Principal Researcher at the Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office (HE2RO) with a joint appointment in the Faculty of Health Sciences University of Witwatersrand. She has extensive experience in designing and implementing RCTs and observational studies, and evaluating interventions to improve HIV prevention and treatment outcomes. She is Co-Director of the Indlela Behavioural Economics unit, a first of its kind nudge unit in South Africa focussing on health and HIV, and is a deputy editor for the Journal of the International AIDS Society.

 

Moderator: Michael Willis (Senior Solutions Manager, Wiley)

Michael has worked in publishing for nearly 25 years. He champions the needs and aspirations of editors, reviewers and authors within journal editorial and peer review processes, advising and speaking on research integrity, publishing ethics, diversity, equity and inclusion, and researcher behaviour. Michael is content and delivery lead for the Wiley-SANLiC Author Engagement Programme.
